LONDON Nicolas Lodeiro Uruguay Jersey , Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Workers of the London Tube will go on strike next week in a longstanding dispute over staff cuts, local authorities confirmed Tuesday.
The British trade union for transport workers, National Union of Rail Maxi Pereira Uruguay Jersey , Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) on Tuesday said its members would hold a 48-hour strike from Oct. 14 to 16. It said the vast majority of RMT tube members have been instructed not to book on for any shifts between 9 p.m. on Oct. 14 through to 8:59 p.m. on Oct. 16 (British Summer Time).
In addition, fleet members have been instructed not to book on for any shifts between 6:29 p.m. between Oct. 14 and 6:28 p.m. on Oct. 16.
"RMT negotiators have made every effort in the long-running talks to resolve a range of issues that impact our members' jobs, their pay and working conditions Matias Vecino Uruguay Jersey , and the safety of the services that they provide to the traveling public," said Mick Cash, RMT's general secretary.

"This action and the timing of it - to coincide with public sector strikes that have nothing to do with London Underground - is cynical in the extreme. It will only lose RMT members pay and disrupt Londoners," he said.
