VIENNA Rush Hayden Hurst Jersey , Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) and Iran on Saturday night jointly announced the implementation day of the historic nuclear deal after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed all the preparation steps required have been completed by Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini jointly made an announcement of the implementation day of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the historic nuclear deal reached last July, after the UN nuclear agency's confirmation of Iran's compliance of its commitment under the deal.
Verified and confirmed by the UN nuclear agency, the steps Iran completed according to the deal could trigger a comprehensive relief of the nuclear related sanctions imposed on Tehran.
""Today, I released a report confirming that Iran has completed the necessary preparatory steps to start the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,"" IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said in a statement.
The EU lifted its economic sanctions against Iran after the UN nuclear watchdog's announcement.
""As Iran has fulfilled its commitments, today, multilateral and national economic and financial sanctions related to Iran's nuclear program are lifted,"" Mogherini said.
Shortly after the IAEA announcement, U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday also signed an executive order to lift sanctions on Iran related to its nuclear program, the White House said.

NEW DELHI, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Indian daily newspaper The Hindu Wednesday applauded the success of the first BRICS Media Summit held in Beijing.
The English-language daily said the summit was successful in creating consensus among BRICS media on how to reinforce their role in bringing about better international economic governance and meeting global challenges such as terrorism and climate change.
China, as the host of the summit, has proposed ""a string of thematic lines including a focus on counter-terrorism for the development of the media, in tune with the growing clout of the BRICS group,"" the daily said.
Better media coordination among the five countries on counter-terrorism, elimination of poverty and hunger as well as climate change were the major topics at the summit, the daily reported.
The ""image of BRICS as leaders of world economic development"" and its role as ""constructor of international peace"" were also discussed at the summit.
The Beijing Declaration issued at the end of the conference focused on integration of traditional and new media, as well as establishing an institutional architecture for the development of journalism in BRICS countries, the newspaper said.
""Pitching for building consensus to deal with terrorism, climate change and other key issues, leaders of 25 media organizations from BRICS countries today pledged to follow the latest trends in international dissemination to cope with fast-paced development in news media,"" the Press Trust of India said Tuesday.
